Things We've Been Doing...Music In Kids Fundraiser

Music In Kids Fundraiser

"My name is Porcelain. I am the founder and CEO of ShitShow Productions. I developed this company as a way to promote and appreciate all the local people that make our world a more beautiful place…right here at home. I believe that the struggle to reach our dreams is real. I am interested in making those dreams a reality."

~ Porcelain

Part of that reality was giving back to our community with The Music Kids Fundraiser. This festival was created to bring the excitement back to music as well as give some children the financial opportunity to take the journey into sound. We believe that music is the most common form of language…and unfortunately, is one of the first programs that is removed from the school curriculum.

Our mission is to educate children in the form of music. So we created a learning station so children could make their own guitars, color their hearts out, and leave a piece of their appreciation behind.

The event was held be on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 11a to 6p at the Knights of Columbus in Somers, CT. Since the month of March is “Music In Schools Month”, ticket sale proceeds went directly to the Windsor Music Centre in Windsor, CT.

After hitting the streets and talking to the community, we learned this family-owned business seems to hold a special place in the community’s heart. They have been serving students, teachers and musicians in the Windsor area for over 50 years and we want to keep their positive musical energy flowing.

We brought you music...

Five acts came out and shared their talents with us. JustJeannie, Stix-N-Lix, Oozie, and Madelyn MacBryde were there.

Reverend Dan and the Dirty Catechism headlined, ft. Joe Ferraro on keyboard.

For more info on the bands and when they played, visit our event page.

Here are some moments from those performances...

JustJeannie came out swinging as our first performer of the afternoon.

With her soulful passion, she captivated the audience with popular songs she made entirely her own.

People always say the world is small...but what we didn't know is just how small this world really is.

Turns out, JustJeannie and Stix-N-Lix (our second band performing) are longtime friends and often perform together. So we were honored with the opportunity for a crossover performance.

This is a little snippet of Jeannie and AJ jamming out to an emotional rendition of "Ex's and Oh's", made famous by Elle King

Livio joins the two and the sound goes from a 10 to an 11!

From JustJeannie's first song to Stix-N-Lix' last song, you could feel the energy continuing to build.

This is a little snippet of Stix-N-Lix jamming out to two of Livio's songs, from his "Free Spirit Band Society":

"Over the Wishing Well" and "Look at Me Go".

Any show that has Stix-N-Lix in it has this lovely lady, Lisa (GetReal Media) right there beside them. We were honored to have her take these awesome pictures in the gallery below.

It is amazing to meet these bands and watching them perform. But what makes it an experience is meeting the friends and family they bring with them.

Left to Right: Adam (Oozie), Kayla, Cooper (Oozie), Tristan (Oozie) and Gina

This is a little snippet of Oozie jamming out to their original song, "Kamikaze".

Words cannot describe how thankful and proud we are of this incredible young woman.

Not only did Madelyn MacBryde come our rescue with some much-needed sound equipment, this event was her very first gig!

Here is a clip from her performance...

"Viva La Vida" made famous by Coldplay.

"Wildflowers" made famous by Tom Petty.

Reverend Dan and the Dirty Catechism had big shoes to fill as the headlining band...rounding out the last of our performers. And a stroke of bad luck couldn't have hit them at a worse time.

Just days before, their keyboard player landed in the hospital...our love and prayers go out to you, Charles.

But they were still eager to perform. So with the help of Joe Ferraro, this band pulled off one phenomenal set.

Here is a clip of their original song, "Tearing at Each Other's Clothes".

We brought you vendors...

Lee Lee came out to face paint as well as had artwork for sale.

Kelly came out to put hair feathers in the kids' hair.

Katie wanted to volunteer and be a part of the experience. Way to go, Kiddo!

The whole room smelled amazing thanks to Morgan, our independent Scentsy consultant.

Keeping us stylish and grateful we had Patty with Grateful Steamhats.

Sarah and Zak brought their sensitive, yet dark side of life with art from Forbidden Forest Art.

We brought you food...

Hamburgers, hot dogs, and bake sale items donated by the following volunteers:

~ Pipa ~

~ Porcelain ~

~ Bri ~

~ Madelyn ~

~ Patty ~

~ Barbara ~

But none of this would have even been possible without the following people:

Our sponsors...

Barbara...for representing Tommy's Supplies and StarBrite Colors. She handed gifts to the kids as well.

Our staff:

Michelle, Pipa, Bri, Sam and Shane

Paul came out and took some pictures. His gallery is featured below.

But most especially...

Porcelain, the host/creator

and

Pipa, her husband/business partner

They spent many hours setting up the venue for the show, many days making guitars for the Kids' Kraft Korner, and many months communicating with everyone.

"What an insane experience! What turned out to be an amazing fundraiser did not start off that way. From Day 1, planning this event was one step away from being a nightmare.

Band selections changed countless times.

We had no vendors until 2 weeks before the show.

So many food vendor conflicts. A performer in the hospital.

Half our volunteers did not show up. We found out the day before the event that we did not have a sound system.

But all that stress, anxiety, hair pulling, crying, and screaming led to all these phenomenally creative minds to all come together for a great cause. And we would do it all over again."

~ Porcelain

Although it took these people to run a successful event, it was the people who bought tickets and food that made the event successful.

And we captured some of those moments...

And we raised

$500

for the Windsor Music Centre

After a day of rest and bracing a snow storm, Pipa and Porcelain took a trip to see our friends at the Windsor Music Centre. They handed them a poster, signed by everyone at the fundraiser, and a check.

"Joe was so excited to see the poster. That was the first thing we gave him. He can't wait to hang it up in the shop"

~ Pipa

"Thank you all again...those who donated, participated, volunteered, and performed. This was an experience of a lifetime. You guys took my dream and made it a reality. I am so proud of you all. Mad love, my little monkeys! And stay alert for future events because I need your help."

~ Porcelain

And there you have it!

This event is the first in a series called "The Music For Life Project". Each festival is geared towards kids teaching them about creative arts and about giving back to their communities.
