Hey there hi! My name is Ms. Porcelain and I am the secretary at the Windsor Music Centre.
On Tuesday June 25, 2024, I had the honor of hosting a kazoo-along for young musicians aged 3 to 6 years old and their parents.
Here is the play-by-play of how the night went down...
The doors opened at 5:00 pm.
First, we all shared what our favorite colors. There was blue and there was yellow. So many colors! We even got a kazoo in our favorite color!
After we all had a kazoo, we ventured downstairs to the classroom areas. There were many rooms used to give lessons. We, however, were in the biggest room.
We gathered around. Some of us knew how to play a kazoo and some of us were learning for the first time. We all learned that to make a kazoo work we have to hum into the larger end. A kazoo has a membrane, a piece of wax paper, that vibrates when you hum into the instrument creating the sound.
Next we moved into practicing our humming. We picked two songs we wanted to work on..."Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and "Happy Birthday". After a few rounds of humming, it was time to give it a try with our kazoos. It was rocky to start, but within a few rounds we were getting the hang of it.
Our jam session came to close. Each little musician had to pick one of the songs to practice for the next month.
We will be having another class in July. We will be making shakers! For more info, check out the link below:
Thank you all you who participated in this event and we can't wait to see you all at the next one!
